Daylight Saving Time Ends

How to Set Your Clock Back for Fall

Daylight Saving Time ends on the first Sunday in November at 2:00 a.m., when clocks "fall back" one hour. Watch the video below, then follow the steps for your type of clock.

Mechanical clocks with chimes

Grandfather, wall, and mantel clocks.

  1. Carefully open the clock door.
  2. Slowly turn the minute hand only (the long hand) counterclockwise. Be careful not to bump the hour hand.
  3. Keep turning until the clock reads one hour earlier, for example from 5:00 back to 4:00. When moving the hands backward, you don't need to pause for the chimes.
  4. Once the clock is back one hour, set it to the exact current time.
